Microsoft’s Soapbox vs YouTube September 19, 2006

U.S. software giant Microsoft started the BETA testing period of it’s new site “Soapbox,” which was launched to compete with the popular “YouTube” internet site where video images are shared.

In a bid to get a share of the billion dollar advertisement pie of the internet giants like Google and Yahoo, Microsoft launched “Soapbox” at http://soapbox.msn.com.

Soapbox will host numerous kinds of video images, from old TV programs to videos recorded by users; however, only a limited number of people will benefit from this service during the test period.

According to the Nielsen/NetRatings Company, about 34 million people visited the YouTube site in August alone.
