The 31st annual Banff Mountain Film Festival, from October 28 to November 5, will feature some 50 films from around the world selected from over 300 that were entered into competition.

The focus is on “the adventure of climbing, mountain expeditions, remote cultures and the world’s last great wild places,” the festival says.

Meanwhile, the 13th annual Banff Mountain Book Festival will take place November 1-3, celebrating some of the world’s best mountain and adventure stories. Guests this year include British nature photographer John Beatty, psychologist and climber Geoff Powter of Canmore, Alta., and Kathryn Bridge of Victoria, author of A Passion for the Mountains: The Lives of Don and Phyllis Munday. The Mundays climbed over 100 mountains together from the 1920s through the ’40s.
