BRUSSELS
MUSÉES ROYAUX DES BEAUX-ARTS > To Feb. 4: “Léon Spilliaert, un Esprit Libre.”
Spilliaert’s (1881-1946) oeuvre owes much to Symbolism, Munch and Japanese engravings and yet remains original in its sharpness and psychological approach. The show features about 200 works, including visionary self-portraits. The Royal Library of Belgium, nearby, is offering a complementary selection of Spilliaert’s melancholic and intimist drawings and prints.  www.expo-spilliaert.be

PALAIS DES BEAUX-ARTS > To Jan. 21: “Energie Eternelle: 1500 Ans d’Art Indien.” The concept of “tejas” (the Sanskrit word for radiance, energy) infuses the whole Indian civilization, from mythology to music, and literature to visual arts. The sculptures in stone and bronze from the 2nd century B.C. to the 15th century assembled here reflect that energy.  www.bozar.be
