THE ISRAEL MUSEUM > To Dec. 27: “Far and Away: The Fantasy of Japan in Contemporary Israeli Art.”
Cars, sushi and technology aside, Japan does not represent a powerful cultural reference for Israelis, and yet there is a definite Japanese influence on contemporary Israeli art. This is what the exhibition attempts to document with a selection of paintings, sculptures, installations and video art by 10 artists. The works refer to Japanese culture as expressed in mangas and animes or in more traditional art forms such as scrolls and screens.  www.imj.org.il

To Dec. 12 : “Talking Heads: Portraits and Texts From the Vera and Arturo Schwarz Collection of Dada and Surrealist Art.” Dada and the Surrealists blurred the boundaries between written language and visual art. Schwitters, Breton, Dali and Man Ray were interdisciplinary artists who expressed themselves in writing, painting, photography and performance art. The artworks in all media, given to the museum by a private collector, show the bonds that linked the members of the two artistic movements.  www.imj.org.il
