Historian released

An American historian sentenced to seven years in prison for sexual perversion and sexual abuse of minors was released yesterday in Romania after serving less than five years. Kurt W. Treptow, of Miami Beach, Florida, left the prison in the northeastern city of Iasi in his lawyer’s car.

He was sentenced to the maximum of seven years in December 2002 for offenses involving two girls, aged 10 and 13, whom he invited into his home in Iasi. A Romanian woman convicted of being his accomplice is still in prison.

The historian was released early because he wrote a book titled “The Life and Times of Vlad Dracul” while he was in prison, his lawyer Liviu Bran said. The book, penned from September 2003 until October 2006, was counted as community service, Bran told reporters.

Oh, man.

I’m pretty sure writing a book was never listed in my options for community service.

Well, you are definetely right, but consider this > if you are sentenced let’s say for 10, 20 years, you have to find an excuse so that you can get out as early as possible. Writing a book on the country’s culture, surely makes an excellent excuse 🙂

Romania’s culture is indeed a Dracula oriented, although some time ago the Karpathian Castle was announced for sale.
