“Blades of Glory”, a comedy film in which actors Will Ferrell (Talladega Nights) and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) play an all-male, figure skating pairs team, opens in theatres Friday.

According to Salon, most of the gags in “Blades of Glory”, written by the team of Jeff Cox and Craig Cox, and John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, play off the head-butting contrast between these two characters: Jimmy is gentle and effeminate, he’s shy with girls, although there’s one in particular he does like; Chazz is a macho buffoon who can’t keep his paws off the ladies.

“I think it’s going to be good, and I think that it’s going to bring some attention to our sport,” says U.S. men’s champion Evan Lysacek.

Rule 302 of the International Skating Union says a pair “must be one lady and one man.” After the characters portrayed by Ferrell and Heder are banned from singles skating, they find a loophole to form a pair, USA Today reports.

Dick Button, World Figure Skating Hall of Famer and TV analyst, says he “can’t wait” to see it. “I was supposed to be in it. Unfortunately, it didn’t jell for me,” says Button.

It’s interesting that unbridled by international rules, the “Champions on Ice Tour” already has a two-man skating team. Ukranians Vladimir Besedin. (6 feet 2, 210 pounds) and Oleksiy Polishchuk. (5-7, 150) entertain with comedy and acrobatics.

Skating stars with cameo roles in Blades of Glory include Brian Boitano, Sasha Cohen, Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill, Scott Hamilton and Nancy Kerrigan.
