We have become used to music as a background accompaniment to our lives. Does this affect our minds?

A liberal-minded professor that I know casually observed the other day that he was astonished by the number of teenagers who listened to music while revising for exams. He calculated that it lessened the brain’s ability to absorb information by about 30 per cent. Yet schools did not seem to think it worth mentioning.

Isn’t this worthy of study?
