A 14-year-old Norwegian girl has won a trip to Europe’s space base in French Guiana after winning a competition to name the most suitable choice of music for astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Therese Miljeteig “came up with a wonderful mixture of songs that are ‘out of this world,'” the European Space Agency (ESA) in Paris said in a press release Tuesday.

Her playlist will be downloaded onto an MP3 player and sent to the ISS onboard ESA’s space freighter, the Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), in early 2008. She will fly to Kourou to see the launch.

This was her selection, which beat out 1,000 rivals from 10 countries:
“Here Comes The Sun” – Beatles
“Come Fly With Me” – Frank Sinatra
“Rocket Man” – Elton John
“Up Where We Belong” – Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes
“Imagine” – John Lennon
“Flashdance – What A Feeling” – Irene Cara
“Walk of Life” – Dire Straits
“Fly”- Celine Dion
“Rockin’ All Over The World” – Status Quo
“I Believe I Can Fly” – R Kelly

Motorists in Sweden are accustomed to seeing elks along the roadside, but the discovery of a dead camel on the shoulder of the E22 autoroute left more than a few eyebrows raised, media reported Monday.

Police got the call during the night between Sunday and Monday and found the visibly injured animal dead by the roadside outside the southern Swedish town of Karlskrona.

“We believe that it was being transported on a trailer, and that it fell out and was dragged behind the vehicle on the roadway. When it became clear that the camel had fallen out it was probably just dumped” on the roadside,” police officer Lars Lindwall said.

Police were seeking the owner of the camel and a police complaint for cruelty to animals has been filed.

A US newscaster refused to lead her program with a story about Paris Hilton, arguing she was fed up with media attention given to the controversial Hollywood socialite.

Mika Brzezinski tore her script to pieces on the air and then put another one through a shredder Friday morning when she was asked by her editors on MSNBC cable channel to lead the newscast with an item about Hilton.

“Listen, I just do not believe in covering that story, especially not as the lead story in a newscast when you have a day like today,” Brzezinski said on the air.

Footage documenting her revolt is now making the rounds on the Internet, and has since been viewed on the video exchange Web site YouTube more than 870,000 times.

Hilton, a 26-year-old hotel chain heiress, was released from a Los Angeles, CA, jail Tuesday after serving 23 days for driving with a suspended license.

A Romanian who sued God for “fraud” and “betrayal of trust” for failing to answer his prayers has had his case dismissed in court, a newspaper reported yesterday, AFP reports.

Mircea Pavel, 40, who is serving 20 years in prison for murder, brought charges against “the defendant God, who lives in the heavens and is represented in Romania by the Orthodox Church,” the daily Evenimentul Zilei reported.

He accused God of “fraud, betrayal of trust, corruption and influence peddling.” The court in Timisoara, western Romania, dismissed the case, ruling that “God is not subject to law and does not have an address.”
